THE SACRED WALK -- The Final Week of Jesus

The Sacred Walk – The Final Week of Jesus

The Triumphant Entry

We’ve seen the movies of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. The crowds shouted praises as he entered the city. “Blessed is he who comes, the king” (Luke 19). A celebration so large (Josephus the historian says millions were in the city), they placed tree branches and even their coats to make a path for the Messiah.

Jesus rode a donkey instead of a majestic horse because he is the King of Peace. He offers love, reconciliation, unity, contentment, and rest to all who believe. His peace is individual—between us and God. The conflicts and discord in our society today will only be solved as each person finds the peace Jesus offers.

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).

The roar of the crowd and the praises of the people rang through the air, but Jesus understood a deeper significance about today.

In Exodus 12:3, 6, God instructed each household to choose a lamb for Passover on the 10th day of the month (Nisan). That lamb would then be sacrificed on the 14th day of the month. Each family chose a lamb perfect in every way.

Jesus rode into the city and presented himself the spotless lamb to be sacrificed for our sins on that Sunday. Perfect timing.

“Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).
